Pear tree leaf discoloration #868766

Asked May 16, 2024, 4:37 PM EDT

Hi- I have a dwarf pear tree in my backyard and it started getting dark brown splotches and spots all over the leaves. Is this a type of fungus? And if so, how can I treat it? There is fruit already growing and I’d hate to lose all of it.

Expert Response

Stephanie:  Thanks for your question.  Pear trees are susceptible to a number of fungal diseases.  In order to properly diagnose the cause of the ones you observe, I do need to see some pictures.  If you would please send some that would be helpful.  A picture of the tree as a whole, and then one or more close-ups of the affected areas will allow me to see just what is going on.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Rebecca:  I have been trying to come up to date with Brian's issues, but I seem to be missing a part.  The pictures with the orange blotches are  cedar-apple rust, but I don't see anything related to fire blight.  If in doubt, have him send samples to the PDC.
