What is this spider? #868751

Asked May 16, 2024, 3:32 PM EDT

This guy is running back and forth in my kitchen window, acting like he'd like to be outside.  He's about 1/2" or more, very fast.  I'd like to catch him and put him outside to feast on some bugs.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Ask Extension. My name is Kat, and I’ll be helping you today.

From the pictures you included, this appears to be a jumping spider. Generally harmless & beneficial.

If you were able to capture it and return it to the outside, it will happily hunt & feast on pests in your garden.

The CSU Fact Sheet below includes pictures of spiders commonly found here in Colorado. The jumping spider in Figure 5 most closely resembles the one you found.
