I am re-doing my entire backyard in Columbus, OH. I tilled everything mechanically, and removed all weeds and grass. My yard was covered in weeds and bare spots. I really cannot wait till the fall to plant grass. What recommendations do you have to plant grass in the spring in my area. I already got my soil tested and am ready to apply the correct fertilizer.
Do I need topsoil of any kind?
A pre-emergent that won't kill the grass seeds?

Hi Nathan
Thank you for your gardening question. Seeding now is not the ideal time to seed, but not impossible. I am including several articles to help you in making decisions on grass seed and next steps depending on your environment, conditions etc. Great job on getting your soil tested.

You will want to rake up the soil and break up any large clumps.
If your soil is compacted you may want to consider aerating it.
