Expert Response

This doesn't look consistent with Beech Leaf Disease symptoms, though you can look for the characteristic dark (not paler) banding in the leaves by looking up through them from below so they are backlit by the sky. The pictured damage appears to be the typical yellowing and curling associated with a common aphid that feeds on the leaf undersides. Even if not present now, such as if they were eaten by a ladybug or bird, they could have been there earlier in the season, since feeding damage doesn't always manifest right away. If you find different symptoms or see the dark banding from below, feel free to send us more images for assessment.
