Asked May 16, 2024, 10:20 AM EDT
We have a beautiful honeycrisp apple tree that this year exploded with little excess branches on the trunk and main branches. My question is do we clip them of now, later, or in the fall?
Morrison County Minnesota
Expert Response
These small vertical branches are called water sprouts. They should be removed midsummer when the weather is hot and dry. This timing lessens the opportunity for getting diseases.
