Dead puppies #868673

Asked May 16, 2024, 9:47 AM EDT

I’m a dog breeder who just moved to Macomb County. In the past year, I’ve had 11 out of 13 die within four days of being born. I’ve had all of my adult dogs tested and all of their results were normal. I am interested in having the soil in my yard tested to see if there may be bacteria that could be negatively effecting the newborn puppies.

Expert Response

I'm sorry to hear about your dogs. Our soil test kit would not test for contaminants in the soil.

There are other labs that will test for pesticide/herbicide residue. https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/testing-for-contaminants-in-soil-water-and-plants However, I'm not aware of tests for unknown bacteria. You could try contacting some of the labs on the link above to determine if they have a soil test that would be relevant.
