I understand that yellowflag iris is an invasive species in MD but can find no information on your website about it. Please explain (1) why it is so bad and (2) when and how homeowners should remove it from their yards. I would like to share this information with my neighbors.

We aren't able to profile each invasive species in Maryland, and since few gardeners have ponds or live near wetlands, this particular invasive species is not as prevalent in home settings as it is in drainage ditches/ponds and natural areas like park lands so is not one that we focus on from our home gardening perspective. Rampant growth of this invasive species can affect wetland drainage patterns, fill-in vernal pools or other valued resources for amphibians and other wildlife, and can displace native species. Information about Yellow Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus) is available from these resources:
Maryland Invasive Species Council (MISC)'s Invader of the Month, profiled June 2017
Plenty of non-invasive yellow-flowered Iris cultivars are grown by gardeners that are not threatening to native ecosystems, so proper plant ID is important before removal; not every yellow-flowered Iris is this species, especially if it's not in an area with wet soil or standing water.
