Bumble bees in my dryer vent. #868620

Asked May 15, 2024, 6:52 PM EDT

Any suggestions on how to remove bumble bees from my dryer vent. I have put a fine wire mesh over it. Preventing more to enter. I would prefer not to kill them as I know they are good pollinators. .

Hi Brenda,
What an inconvenient place to have any sort of bees! You certainly do not want them settling down for a summer of raising a bunch of bees. I wonder what is going through their little brains every time you turn on the dryer!

Here's an information page,  "About Bumble Bees", from the Xerces Society website. This will help you understand the lifecycle of bumble bees. As you read, you can understand that in screening the vent, the bees are trapped in the vent and will slowly starve.

I would suggest that you contact beekeepers in the Columbia County and Tillamook County beekeepers clubs. One of them might be able and willing to relocate the bees for you.

Hopefully, you dryer vent will soon be bee-free.
