Hello Sandy,
Yews are definitely a main part of many landscapes and do not suffer from many problems. Read more here: https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?kempercode=d956
However, they do not tolerate poorly drained soil and may suffer from winter burn. Both of which may have affected the shrubs that are in the picture. The only way to learn the cause is to submit a picture and sample to MSU Extension’s Plant and Pest Diagnostic Lab. Go to: https://www.canr.msu.edu/pestid/ to learn how to submit a sample.
