Have Giant Norhern (i. e., Murder) Hornets been found in Oregon in either 2023 or so far in 2024? Thanks, Allen Meyer

Benton County Oregon

Expert Response

Hi Allen,

No, they have never been seen in Oregon and the population in Northern Washington that captured media attention, has not been seen in two years. I have heard that if they are not detected in Washington this year, they will be declared eradicated. Fingers crossed.

Best,
Andony

Hi Andony,

I want to thank you for coming over to check on our insects.  I have a question because Nancy thinks you identified an insect in our house that could convey and infection somewhat like Lyme disease.  Could you tell me what that insect and that infection would be?

Hope you're having a great Summer,

Allen

Hi Allen,

Fortunately, I did not see any insect vectors of disease.  The only disease-bearing arthropods in Oregon are either ticks, fleas and mosquitoes and I did not see any of these on the property.

Best,
Andony
