Insect Netting Mesh Size - for Allium Leaf Miner Exclusion #868426

Good afternoon. After dealing with another year of Allium Leaf Miner and looking to avoid the use of products that can potentially damage pollinators or the soil microbiome, I have decided to use exclusion netting in future years for protecting alliums (as well as carrot and brassicas). Consensus (mostly UK based sources) seems to be that .8mm "fine mesh" is definitely good for ALM, but Standard mesh between 1.3-1.4mm is not. I have a found a high longevity product with a .95x.95mm mesh pattern and was wondering if you had any information regarding efficacy of such a mesh size for excluding ALM?
Thank you.

Hi- we see conflicting information on recommended mesh size to exclude ALM. One research study suggests that 0.80 mm X 0.27 mm is effective.
Since there is no clear recommendation, we suggest you select insect netting with a mesh size of no greater than 0.50 mm x 0.50 mm.
