Hi, I started a maple and some elm trees from seed; I think they're about 2yrs old. Thanks to your information I have been able to winter them over! :)
I'd like to touch base with you and see what is the best way to continue growing them. We aren't able to actually plant them in the ground yet.
1) will the maple be OK in this 3 gal bucket or should I transplant it to a larger container?
2) The elms are doing well, but I feel like they need a bigger container; I think there are about 10 of them in there and I'm not sure what to expect if I do transplant them, in regards to the roots; I don't want to kill any of them.
Any other tips you could share would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Liz

If you're able, we recommend that you transplant your trees outside in their permanent spot as soon as possible. If you need to keep them in containers for a while, pull the rootball out of the pot to see if roots are beginning to circle the plant. Your elm roots may intertwine. You can cut the roots with a hacksaw to have them remain in the container.
