Creeping bellower #868411

Asked May 14, 2024, 2:20 PM EDT

Hello! We bought our house three years ago and only recently realized that a weed taking over our lot is creeping bellflower. I’ve looked into management of it and it doesn’t look promising. The front lawn just had a few spots so I tried digging them out. The side and back yard are pretty infested and digging out the entire thing is not realistic. I know I will likely always have some bellflower but do you have any recommendations for controlling it or reducing it from the lawn and garden beds when digging doesn’t work? I don’t usually use herbicides but am wondering if this is a situation where they should be used. Thank you!

Our information sheet on this aggressive plant will give you all the options.  I do believe you are right that you will have to use herbicides to rid the large areas.  It also will probably have to be done more than once.  Good luck.  https://extension.umn.edu/weeds/creeping-bellflower
