Using a LED Mammoth Mint 6 680 watts light #868335

Asked May 14, 2024, 8:55 AM EDT

I have a LED Mammoth Mint 6 680 watts light with adjustable light intensity.  I need to know what height and intensity (10% to 100%) to set for germinating seeds that require light.  I am using the following to germinate seeds:

Hi Carolyn,

It would probably be best to contact Mammoth for their recommendations - or reference their instruction guide. I found very little online, except that if you can dim the light to about 30%, that's best. Of course, you can always have it on full strength, but at a higher height above the seedlings. Depending on wattage, you'll want to adjust the height:

"As an unofficial rule of thumb, many growers work on the basis that: You need 20-40 watts of power per square foot. Lower wattage LEDs of around 200 watts should sit between 12-20 inches from the top of the plant. Higher wattage LEDs of 1000 watts and above should sit between 36-46 inches from the top of the plant." (It looks like your light is 680 watts? So place it somewhere 20 inches to 36 inches above the plants.)

You won't need to use the LED light until the seedlings germinate and then adjust it from there. The light should be on for 12-16 hours per day initially.
