Garden Soil Test Results #868273

Asked May 13, 2024, 5:39 PM EDT

Hi!, The U of M did a soil test for our vegetable garden. The Phosphorus Test came back very high (showing an all red bar).

What does this mean? do I add something?

We grow vegetables (tomatoes, broccoli, brussels, peppers. The other tests were all in the yellow range.

Thanks for your help!

Expert Response

Kathy,

Thank you for contacting the U of M Extension Service.

Many of the soil tests will show high phosphorus. This can be the result of adding compost to your garden.  Here is a link from the U of M Extension Yard and Garden website;https://extension.umn.edu/nutrient-management-specialty-crops/correct-too-much-compost-and-manure

The high phosphorus number is not as concerning as your percentage of organic material and nitrogen.

Good Luck!
