Seed potatoes w 6" sprouts #868251

Asked May 13, 2024, 4:11 PM EDT

Hello, I purchased my seed potatoes very late so I few options. I wound up purchasing a generic white from Menards called Early Season White Potatoes. They have 6" sprouts. Each potato has 2-3 of these long sprouts. Do I need to do anything special with them when planting? Thank you, George

Expert Response

Try not to break them off and put them in about 4 inches deep leaving about 2 inches sticking out. If the sprouts break the potato doesn’t have a lot of reserves to make new sprouts.
Thank you
