Linden Tree - Anthracnose? #868156
Asked May 13, 2024, 10:16 AM EDT
Hello - A tree in my front yard, which I believe is a Linden Tree, has starting dropping leaves this spring. I have taken a couple of pictures of the leaves that I'm attaching. It appears that there are some black spots...some quick googling made me think this is due to the highly wet spring and maybe is Anthracnose. But I wanted to get an expert opinion.
What does this look like and what would you recommend?
Thank you!

Expert Response
Hello. It does appear that is a pathogen, but can't positively id based on just a photo.
Spring leaf diseases will sometimes cause leaf drop - and we have had the wet weather that promotes spring diseases.
As long as the tree is relatively healthy it should push out new growth if enough leaves fall. Fungicide applications are rarely warranted.
Please let me know if you need anything else. Our office is at the Toledo Botanical Garden if you ever want to bring samples or asked question in the county.
Have a great week - Amy
