Sapling Cascara still bent over from the winter snow/ice #868140

Asked May 13, 2024, 2:35 AM EDT

Dear Master Gardner, I planted a lanky Rhamnus purshiana last year in my front yard. This past winter’s snow and ice load left it listing to one side. Should I stake this tree erect? If I should, what would be the recommended way of staking it? I also had a Baccharis pilularis knocked to the ground by a falling branch during the ice/snow. Is it possible to save the bush? If so how? I don’t have a problem with naturally misshapen plants so long as they can be healthy; however, the front yard tree, I would prefer to see straightened up. Many thanks in advance for any advice you provide, S

To straighten the tree, follow the advice in this URL:

When pulling on the tree use a good pad to prevent trunk damage.

Well, I just clicked on the link and it is all about yard drainage solutions. The issue I’m pretty sure with the Cascara sapling was the burden of the ice and snow bending it over. Perhaps you added the drainage link by mistake?
Thanks

Oh, Oh. I had 2 questions at the same time. I wonder if the other got the tree straightening link.
Try this one with my apology.
