Banded Ash Borers #868110

Asked May 12, 2024, 6:26 PM EDT

We just lost a large limb on a mature tree in our back yard. I noticed it had a number of banded ash borers on the limb. Do you have recommendations on treating an infestation of banded ash borers?

Expert Response

Hi Roxanne-  This is not my area of expertise but we just had an excellent presentation from Oregon Department of Forestry's state entomologist that I recommend watching.  She doesn't speak exactly about banded ash borers but she does give relevant guidance on native insects, both beneficial and those that can cause damage.  The banded ash borer is native to Oregon.  This is presentation:
Native and Non-Native Insect Pests of Forest Trees: Diagnosis and Management by Christine Buhl of ODF.

OSU doesn't have specific information I am able to locate on banded ash borers but here are a few things from Utah and Ohio.

Hope that gets you going in a useful direction.

Kind regards
