What's wrong with our newly planted William Baffin shrub Rose? #868087

Asked May 12, 2024, 2:53 PM EDT

Aloha UofM Staff! We recently purchased a William bathroom shrub Rose from Gertens and planted it and have noticed yellow leaves. I did an online search and it mentioned may be overwatering it as the cars. We are watering it every day, so is that what we are doing wrong? Thank you for the help! David

Expert Response

Yes, probably overwatering.  It is best to use an inexpensive moisture meter to help you control your watering impulse.

A couple of other points I'd like to make.  It looks like the rose is in a pot on a balcony.  If it remains in that situation, even as hardy as William Baffin is, it won't survive next winter without some protection (moving it indoors or into a somewhat heated area).  Also, William Baffin gets quite large and will quickly outgrow your pot.  It is better planted outdoors:
