Especially red squirrels have been constantly digging up my plant containers most this warm winter and spring.. What can I do now that it's planting season

This web page has some information. I use plastic forks inserted into the ground with the tines up to repell squirrels. Hardware cloth formed into cages around plants and attached to the sides of the container. Chicken wire may also work, although the spaces between wires is larger.
