2 yrs ago I found about 6 of these that were brown in color and now I find this white one in the same area.

What is it.

Williamson County Texas

Expert Response

Mr. Hill,
Thank you for your question. This is a mushroom. As for a positive identification I do not know. I have compared it to edible mushrooms found in Texas and it does not match any. It is a close resemblance to the giant puffball but I do not think it is one.

It does not appear to be one of the poisonous mushrooms either, but I do not recommend consuming.

You may consider posting your picture on iNaturalist and seeing if anyone can identify it for you.

Thanks for the response John. The giant puffball is the closest that I have found also.
I found 6 of these 2 yrs ago in the same general vicinity  but they were all a deep brown color.
