While digging in the garden I often uncover brown bullet shaped bugs at an early stage of their development. I will attach a picture. What do these become later in their life?

Expert Response
I believe it to be a developing (or hibernating) sort of flying insect. I don't think it is a threat to plants, but I am not a bug expert. You can take your excellent photo to the Plant clinic at the OSU Extension Offices, 569 Hanley Rd. (Rte. 238), about 3 miles northwest of Jacksonville. They can examine your photo (or even better, the critter itself). Their current hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 to 2. Please phone them to be certain someone is on duty to help you. Phone number is<personal data hidden>.
