Recently I discovered some damage to the bark of the locust tree we planted last fall. I don't know if the damage was hidden by the white plastic tube protecting the trunk or if I caused the damage when I took the plastic tube off. In any event, the tree looks healthy and seems to be doing well this spring. I'm wondering if there is anything I should do to help the tree heal the damage to the bark or to protect the tree. The damage is a missing strip of bark about a quarter inch wide and about six inches long near ground level.
