Unwanted tree seedlings #867996

Asked May 11, 2024, 12:41 PM EDT

I have many Ash tree seedlings growing in several areas of my yard. The seeds came from a neighbors tree. They are about 2 feet tall. I have dug some up and they have very long roots and some roots broke off. I have 2 questions. Will the root still grow another tree? Some I can't dig because they are next to the house. Can I kill the seedlings by cutting them down and painting the stub with ROUNDUP? or will continuing to cut them off will they die? Thanks

Digging the seedling out and disturbing the roots, as long as they aren’t connected to another tree, should be the end of that seedling.  Be sure to keep an eye on them.  As far as the seedling near the house, yes it should work to cut them down and coating the newly cut stem.  Be sure to follow the instructions on the product and be careful not to get it on other plants you don’t want to kill.
