Hi there, We have a few grapevines and they do have some leaves which have like bumps on top and on the bottom the bumps are filled with a white powdery substance. What is it? And how to treat it?

Expert Response

Hi Nicole and thanks for your picture of your grape leaves with the "bumps". These are erineum mites which make a blister with the leaf hairs and feed on the leaf through the summer. There are predatory mites and beetles which feed on these critters and spraying is not usually necessary. Using a dormant season horticultural oil next winter would be recommended but the blisters protect the mites at this time so just encourage the predators by not spraying anything now.
