Should you plant seed potatoes with mold #867920

Asked May 10, 2024, 3:45 PM EDT

I cut seed potatoes 2 weeks ago but didn’t get around to planting them yet. The Kennebec are in the paper bag and the Pinto Gold are in the container. They developed some mold on the cut parts. Should I still plant them? Thanks!

Expert Response

Hi- if you have time and space and are curious, you could slice of the moldy tissue and plant them today or tomorrow. It's likely that plant growth and yield will be reduced- by how much we can't say.
