Carpet beetles and moths #867890

Asked May 10, 2024, 1:17 PM EDT

Hello. We are considering installing wool carpet in our home. Most carpet manufacturer treat carpets with insecticide to prevent carpet, beetles and moth infestations. Is this necessary in Minnesota? We prefer wool carpet that isn’t treated with any insecticide. Thanks.

Expert Response

I'm afraid your question is outside the area of expertise for a Master Gardener.  However, those insects are in Minnesota.  You will have to decide (1) do a search for untreated wool carpeting or (2) decide to have carpeting with synthetic fibers, or (3) go ahead and purchase the treated carpeting.  Sorry I can't give you a specific answer.
