Brown patch in lawn, how do deal with it? #867867

Asked May 10, 2024, 11:23 AM EDT

Hello, I live in NW Longmont. Two years ago I had my lawn sodded and it was beautiful. I don't think I had a problem last year when the lawn grew, but this year there is a big patch of dead grass that doesn't grow that encompasses about a quarter of the lawn. The rest of the lawn looks "okay". Is there a service you provide, analyzing soil, give fertilization advice, etc.?

Expert Response

Hello Randy,

First off...our apologies for the slow response. Many Ask Extension questions were inadvertently ending up in our junk file and we've only now discovered them. If you've already figured out what is happening with your lawn, please let us know.

If you have not solved the problem, can you send us photos of your lawn from close up and from a distance please?

Here are a few questions that might help us figure out what's going on: How are you irrigating, how often, and for how long? Do you apply any products to the lawn (fertilizers, weed killers), and have you aerated? Was there anything in that particular area prior to the sodding a couple of years ago?

Thank you,
