Private forestry management #867831

Asked May 10, 2024, 12:22 AM EDT

I own about 8 acres of forest in the Ypsilanti, MI area. It's mostly untouched from what I can tell, for years. It's adjacent to about 20-30 acres of more trees/forest that is also mostly untouched. It's a rural area near farms, and backs up to a subdivision. It has a lot of mature trees in it, which I intend to keep. But there's a TON of buckthorn in it as well. I'd like to clear the buckthorn, and begin to plant new trees in the forest area. I'd like to put in some nut trees that would help to support the wild life in the area, as well as maybe some fruit trees as well. I do not intend to develop the forest, I'd like to keep it there and insure it stays natural for the future. Problem is, I have no idea where to start or what to do. I'd like to talk with a forestry person who could give me some tips and point me in the right direction. THanks.

Summer is listed around half way down.
