Blight on Northern Bayberry #867825

Asked May 09, 2024, 10:09 PM EDT

I’m concerned about these shrubs, the new leaves are green but the older ones are brown.  These are two years old in 6-8 hours of son a day.

Expert Response

It's normal for Bayberry foliage to become somewhat bronze (brown-blushed) as they age, including over the winter (when the leaves are retained, at least, because it can also be normal for Bayberry to shed most leaves by winter). A small amount of spotting on the older leaves is also typical and not concerning, and the new growth on these shrubs looks good, so they should be fine.
