I don't think my question came thru.  My neighbor wants to plant a weeping cherry tree in the front of a middle group townhouse.  Should I be concerned?

Hi,

We did receive the question, but thank you for sending again.

Is there something in particular you are concerned about? The space or size of the growing area?

We wouldn't necessarily suggest a weeping cherry for that area since we are assuming that it is too small of a space for it. It would be better to plant a tree that will be able to grow to its mature size without having to prune it to stay in bounds. Frequent pruning on trees can stress their growth health and cause disease and insect issues.

Cherry trees come with their set of problems. You can share our ornamental cherry tree diagnostic page to perhaps help sway their decision to a native tree.

There are weeping redbud trees that are very beautiful and would be a better size and more suited for the site.

If they want to reach out to us, we would happily give them a list of native trees or plants that could work in their front yard. Feel free to pass on how to contact ASK EXTENSION.
