Here is a fact sheet of trees not to plant and why. https://wayne.osu.edu/sites/wayne/files/imce/Tree%20planting%20for%20the%20home%20landscape%20Gary%20Graham%20April%2030%20article.pdf
Here is a fact sheet on how to plant your tree. Make sure you don’t plant it too deeply or volcano mulch it when you are done planting. https://u.osu.edu/knoxcountyag/2020/04/22/planting-trees-correctly/

Now for your natives that would be good in a swale. My first choice would be swamp milk weed. You would be helping the monarchs. Cone flower, liatris, bergamot, Joe Pye weed (I would use Baby Joe as it is shorter). Asters and Obediant plant. Here are tow fact sheets. One has flowers and how to create a rain garden if you would choose to do so and one is a list of flowers. Hope this helps. https://www.neorsd.org/wordpress/wp-content/themes/domag/pdf/2007_rain_garden_manual.pdf

There is also a group called master rain gardeners—not associated with the OSU Master Gardener program, but is a very good course. Several of the MGVs I know took it and created a rain garden. They highly recommend it. Here is a link to their website if you are interested https://neomasterraingardener.org/
