WEED I.D. #867664

Asked May 08, 2024, 8:16 PM EDT

Where I just moved from (Skagit Co., WA) the State University Master Gardeners host a weekly plant and insect identification session: Gardeners bring weeds and bugs, and the volunteers use their extensive experience and resources to help identify them and to explore options. I have just moved to coastal Lincoln Co., so have many new weeds to get acquainted with. Do we have anything like this? Thank you very much!

Expert Response

Thank you for your question!

The Master Gardeners in Lincoln County have a help desk (called plant clinic) every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-12 where they answer community gardening questions. You can send or bring in weed ID (or other gardening) questions to the Master Gardeners to be answered during these times. You can email your questions to them directly at <personal data hidden> or stop by our office (Lincoln County Extension Office, 1211 SE Bay Blvd., Newport, OR 97365) during plant clinic hours and they'll be happy to help you with any specific questions you may have.

The Master Gardeners also put on educational events on a variety of topics throughout the year. The best ways to keep up with event announcements are by signing up for event notifications via the mailing list on the Lincoln County Master Gardeners Association website and/or liking them on Facebook.

I hope this helps!

Thank you, Evie.
Is the Plant Clinic held year-round, or only certain months?
Where in the Extension Building is the Plant Clinic held?
Should I call for an appointment?

Thanks much!
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

Master Gardeners are answering questions year-round. The Tuesday-Thursday Schedule runs from May-October (the busy season where we’re getting a lot of questions in). From November-April, one or two Master Gardener will ‘adopt a week’-- still answering whatever questions come in that week, but on a less predictable schedule. You can always bring in samples to drop off in the office or send in questions whenever is convenient for you (as long as the office is open, if you’re bringing something in) and Master Gardeners will address your questions when they’re staffing plant clinic.

The plant clinic is on the second floor of the office. Our office specialist, Celia, will direct you to the plant clinic office when you come in!

No need to call for an appointment! If you’d like to speak to someone in person, you can just come by Tuesday or Thursday 9-12, and folks will be there and ready to take your questions!

Best,
