Expert Response

Hi Nancy,

Thankyou for reaching out. Without a picture, I cannot accurately identify the plant, but for the Shining Geranium specifically, I have included a link to a publication from the Benton County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) that can help you with that and a couple other invasives. They are a great resource when trying to ID and manage invasive plants, they even have some resources for grants and funding to control certain species. I highly recommend reaching out to your local SWCD.

Click on the link below for the publication:

I would recommend hand pulling now, before it goes to seed to prevent spreading. The publication gives a couple other alternatives that you could try as well.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hello Crystal

I was not able to open the link you sent me. I actually have acres of the Shiny Geranium. So pulling is now out of the question and I have sprayed it with Round-up and it seems to be impervious to it. This year I have experienced a hundred fold increase in its growth.

I will contact the Linn County Soil and conservation district.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for the response. The Soil & Water Conservation District would probably be your best bet. If Linn County cannot help, I would even try reaching out to Benton since it is a neighboring county.

Here is that again:

Good Luck!
