What is this weed in my lawn? #867605

This is an annual weed that is taking over sections of the lawn (both in sunny and shady locations). Stems are red as they grow. Mature plant has a substantial stem and a fairly long tap root. Thanks for any help!

There are two ways to look at a weed like this. First, it is a weed to treat with herbicides.
Or, it is a sign that your grass is not being cultivated in a way to best keep weeds from invading. I can't comment on this without knowing more about your lawn care.

Thanks Mr.Miles for your prompt response to my question about knotweed. I've look at countless images trying to figure it out. Thanks for the additional information you provided! I have an idea on how to proceed.
