Had lots of powdery mildew in vegetable garden last year #867596
Asked May 08, 2024, 2:13 PM EDT
Hi,
I have two small raised vegetable garden beds and for the last couple years, I've had my pumpkins, zucchini and other things covered with the white powdery mildew all over the leaves at the middle and end of each growing season. The leaves eventually die and turn completely gray and fall off. The area gets plenty of sun and is well drained and I try not to overwater it. I have some NeemMax - a cold pressed Neem Oil concentrate. I was wondering if I could mix it according to directions and spray it into the soil before I plant my vegetables and how soon can I plant them after spraying? Or do I plant and then spray the soil and leaves as they are growing and continue to spray a couple times during the season?
Thanks for your help,
Julie

I commiserate with you when it comes to powdery mildew. It is quite the nuisance! Here is a great resource for managing it - https://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/yard-garden/powdery-mildews-2-902/
When it comes to applying it before you seed, I wouldn't bother. The spores are well established in top soil. I would recommend following the application schedule in the resource instead.
Hope this helps!
