The triple shredded hardwood mulch that we have used between our raised garden beds has broken down substantially. We want to know if this is a good soil amendment to add to our vegetable and perennial beds. Would you recommend placing it in the beds as is? Or should we amend it in some way first to ensure a balanced and beneficial additive?

Hi there,
Semi-decomposed mulch can be a great additive to your garden, especially as a top dressing to sheet mulch over weeds and choke out unwanted plants. You can do this by simply topping your garden with a layer of the mulch, at least 3 to 6 inches thick to cover the ground. If you have a compost pile or would be interested in composting, this mulch is also an amazing ingredient to use as your carbon content for the compost. Mulch will act as a brown carbon material and absorb the residues of nitrogen rich materials when composted correctly.
