We're starting a garden on our campus! #867567

Asked May 08, 2024, 12:43 PM EDT

Hello! We are starting a campus garden this year at our East Grand Forks Campus at Northland, in the hopes it can someday grow into a community garden space. We’ve named it after our school mascot, Pioneer Patch Gardens. We have a workgroup made up of students, staff and faculty who are supporting it and doing the hard work. Our goals are to help support our student food pantry, others in need, and provide educational opportunities for students. The reason for my inquiry today is we are working with a very small budget but have our start up costs covered. Would MN Extension have any vegetable seeds they would be able to donate to our garden project? Any types of seed that we could keep on hand for sustainment would be ideal.

Dear Rachel,

That is very exciting! Unfortunately, the UMN Extension does not have any vegetable seeds on hand to donate. You may wish to look into community seed libraries -- it looks like there is one in East Grand Forks: https://www.eastgrandforks.us/723/Seed-Library

Good luck with your project, and feel free to reach out with any other questions!
