Climbing flowering annual #867554

Asked May 08, 2024, 11:49 AM EDT

We are apartment dwellers but have several containers on a large patio. We have two trellises but haven't had a lot of luck getting anything to climb them. Can you recommend a flowering annual that would climb? These pots get full-on East sun but are shady from about 4 PM on.

Expert Response

There are several annual vines that should do well in your containers. Sometimes you have to give them a little help by attaching them to the trellis.

Tithonia, cardinal climber, black-eyed Susan vine, Malabar spinach, sweet peas and morning glories all should do well in your situation.

Because they are in pots, be sure to fertilize them regularly.
