Hi, I have just recently found a black worm crawling on my apple tree leaves.  it appears to be very think and about 1/8" long.  leaves are beginning to develop pin size holes.  this has appeared on some trees that I just planted last weekend and as well some older trees.  I have already sprayed my dormant oil and my fruit tree spray for the year. what should i do?

At this time of year, none of the common apple pests would match the description of a black caterpillar. I would guess this is is some type of caterpillar or sawfly that is using apple as a secondary host. It may look unsightly but should not impact the health of the tree. If you are concerned about damage, you can apply a pyrethroid that is labeled for control on fruit trees.
