Identify diseased pine tree #867465

Asked May 07, 2024, 4:24 PM EDT

I noticed one of our pine trees is diseased. The tree is almost 20 years old. I don't know what kind of pine tree it is. I can't find pictures of diseased trees that look like my issue. Can you identify it for me? Thank you.

This is likely a white spruce.  It is difficult to see what is going on from the pictures.  See: https://www.minnesotawildflowers.info/tree/white-spruce
Can you take a picture of the entire tree?  Then take a picture up close of the place where the green needles end and the brown needles start.  In the meantime take a look at the following websites with links to disease patterns.

Thank you for your response.  We happened to have an arborist in our neighborhood who diagnosed our tree problem as spruce gall adelgid.  They plan to treat the tree and are confident they will be able to take care of the insects causing the problem.

Great!  An onsite assessment by a professional is always best when diagnosing disease.
