Can Consort Black Currant (Ribes ussuriense or Ribes nigrum) be grown in Michigan without getting a permit? My friend ordered the plants off from Etsy. So, they were not ordered from a reputable nursery. As near as I can tell Black Currants need a permit anywhere in Michigan per MDARD. Also, per MDARD other currants only need a permit in certain counties. What are the dangers to my white pine and the white pine on surrounding public properties.

It is much easier to prevent a disease than to combat it. That is the case with White Pine Blister Rust. The need for a permit is still required as of March 2023. Consort is listed as an approved variety. As long your friend gets his permit, the risk should be minimal. Check out these links:
