Sweet Woodruff and Vinca in Wetlands #867449

Asked May 07, 2024, 2:55 PM EDT

I live on an inland lake in Leelanau County. Property is adjacent to wetlands. Wetlands are being overgrown by sweet woodruff and Vinca Minor. Starting to crowd out native wetland plants like marsh marigolds. Is there an environmentally responsible way of limiting their spread and eventually eradicating them in this space?

Expert Response

If you haven't already connected with your local conservation district, I would recommend doing so. Some invasive removals require the use of herbicides which is often beyond the capability of most individuals and could potentially damage the environment if applied incorrectly. Most conservation districts can help you develop a long-term strategy for controlling invasives and may be able to help with their removal.
