A tree company recommended they apply a manganese soil drench to my 11 pine trees. Is this safe for my trees and. Neighboring flowers? Also is this difficult to do or could I do it myself?
Thank you!

Hi Thank you for contacting Ask Extension
I am going to guess that the tree company came out and actually examined the trees you have a concern about and or did a soil test.
Applying a manganese soil drench can be an effective way to manage a deficiency in the soil. It can be very beneficial to the health of your trees. It is important to know the correct portions for your soil needs so it is done safely. This is why I asked if a soil test was done?
Manganese is an essential micronutrient for plant and tree growth and a drench is an effective way to deliver this nutrient to the roots of the tree. It does require some care to ensure that the solution is applied at the correct rate and depth.
If you decide to do this application yourself, take a soil sample to your county extension office to determine the correct amount to apply to improve the soil deficiency. Manganese drench is available at most nurseries. Be sure to follow the manufacture instructions carefully. It is also important to water both before the application and after to help the manganese ions move into the root zone.
As for safety to your neighboring plants, manganese is considered safe when used as directed. Chances are that if your soil is low on this your neighbors soil will also be low.
I have attached a few articles about manganese deficiency. I hope this can help with your question.
Thanks for getting in touch with Ask Extension.
