Canker problem #867416

I have lost all three of my different varieties of dwarf or semi dwarf peach trees to canker. Lost a semi dwarf Contender peach about 5or 6 years ago. The following year I lost a dwarf variety (don’t remember variety). Last one lost was a dwarf Reliance in 2021. Can I try growing cold hardy peach trees in my zone 5A yard again? I’ve had no problems growing 3 pear trees, 3 paw paw trees and 1 honey crisp apple tree but they’re not stone fruits. Thank you.

Good Morning Gary,

Under the diseases, this information states:
- Trunk canker diseases can form in the trunks of tender stone fruit trees after winter injury or other injuries caused by wounds in the trunk. These diseases enter the trunks through the wounds and gradually kill the trees over several years, by cutting off water and nutrient movement through the tree. Prevent this by planting cold hardy varieties, which are more resistant to winter damage.
There is an entire section devoted to winter protection of the trees.
Good Luck!
