Soil Test Questions #867396

I had a soil test done and was told I needed to add a significant amount of potassium to my soil. I would like to use rabbit pellets. They will increase the potassium but there is also a 3% nitrogen component. Will that make my soil too hot? I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Thank you.

Expert Response
Marie,
Thank you for your question. After looking at nitrogen composition estimates for rabbit pellets, my recommendation is to proceed with using them. The type of nitrogen in rabbit pellets is in a form that does not generally "burn" plants. If you are still feeling hesitant, you can compost the rabbit pellets first for 2-3 months before applying to your garden beds.
