Hi! I've never grown strawberry plants before. My grandson wants to grow one. We bought a plant at Home Depot. I have a 12" diameter plastic pot with drainage holes. Can I use that? I bought Miracle Gro potting soil.Is that fine? I read you have to feed them. Do you have to feed them if you use Miracle Gro because I think that has some food in it? I am going to buy a cage so animals don't eat the plant. I want him to be successful. Please give us any tips. Thanks

Growing strawberries in a container sounds like fun. There are many helpful articles on the internet but this looked to be the most helpful - https://yardandgarden.extension.iastate.edu/how-to/how-grow-strawberries-containers
Your container size and choice of soil is a good start. Be careful about watering, strawberries are fussy about watering. You may have to check a few times a day for proper moisture until the roots have grown out into the pot, but don't over water. The fertilizer in the planting media will only last 4-6 weeks so you will need to fertilize about once a month. Please read the article to get more tips.
