Last Fall we began having a large number of knat/fruit fly looking flying bugs. They are attracted to certain foods. Banana peelsOJ, even water. They have been a bother all Fall and Winter and Spring. Our house is clean. They don't seem attracted to cat food wet or dry. I have traps but to minimal success. Help!

Hi Lysa,
We also get some of those kinds of small flies around fruits or vegetables in our kitchen, especially in late summer or fall. Seems a little strange that yours have been persisting through winter though.
Around our house, when we get these kinds of flies, we try to keep any attractive foods in sealed containers or in the refrigerator. To trap the flies, we set out small dishes of cider vinegar as an attractant and we add a drop of dish soap to each dish. The soap breaks the surface tension, so that the flies will sink into the liquid if they land on it and will drown.
Hope that helps!
