Care for 4 year old weigala bush #867309

My weigala is not flourishing. It is May and it is starting to bud with green leaves (most of the leaves are dark while there are some new green leaves). I use homemade compost as fertilizer which I thought was doing the best I could for this bush. When I look at my neighbor's weigala (we live in townhomes in which landscaping is the same) and he does nothing to his outdoor plants, his weigala has many more dark leaves and tends to have more flower blooms in the season. Should I be using a different fertilizer? I read the weigala doesn't need extra watering. So maybe I watered too much last year. i don't see pest infestation. Do you have suggestions for what I may be doing wrong?

Try stop using fertilizer for several months. If your neighbor's bush is fine without fertilizer, then yours may be also. Also check this web page, although I don't see dark leaves listed.

My weigelea is fine with no care except watering. Its leaves are only partially out at the moment. Also there are weigelea's with dark leaves which is normal for those varieties. Also does your bush get a different amount of sun than your neighbor's because it is planted on a different side of the house from his? That could also be a contributing factor
